Case Study One
Project type: Aircraft crash into agricultural land
Project reserve: less than £10,000
Project duration: 5 months
In this incident, up to 100 litres of aviation fuel, oils and fire-fighting foam were estimated to have escaped to ground. This was a straightforward extraction of contaminated material but reinstatements needed to coincide with the field cropping, which prolonged the duration of the remediation.
Case Study Two
Project type: Aircraft crash at an airfield
Project reserve: £29,000
Project duration: 4 months
In this incident, around 745 litres of aviation fuel were estimated to have escaped to ground. The remediation was complicated by the presence of a water table within 3m below ground level, which was impacted by the escaping fuel. Groundwater remediation was required along with extraction of impacted ground on site.
