Case Study One

Project type: Fuel tank and house fire
Project reserve: £15,000
Project duration: 6 months

In this incident, 2,200 litres of kerosene were either burnt or lost to ground next to the property exterior wall with the plastic fuel tank reduced to melted plastic. Kerosene does not ignite as readily as some other fuels and substantial amounts of kerosene are usually lost to ground in a fire situation. In this case at least 500 litres were expected to have gone to ground. Remedial works were co-ordinated alongside the fire restoration contractors.

Case Study Two

Project type: Fuel tank barn fire
Project reserve: £25,000
Project duration: 16 months

In this incident, around 550 litres of agricultural diesel leaked to ground after a barn fire. Hosing down the barn fire caused a wide area of ground to be impacted by the escaping fuel. The presence of debris and asbestos prolonged this remediation with the extraction of contaminated materials following the clearance of debris from the site by fire restoration contractors.
