Case Study One
Project type: Well contamination from a leaking fuel line
Project reserve: £36,000
Project duration: 12 months
In this incident, around 620 litres of kerosene were estimated to have escaped to ground into a limestone sub-strata, that meant groundwater was impacted and in turn two neighbouring wells were polluted. An extensive programme of floating fuel recovery took place from the water table alongside cleaning up the natural stone wells. The duration of the remediation was prolonged by a monitoring programme, which extended into the following winter.
Case Study Two
Project type: Drinking water bore hole contamination
Project reserve: £60,000
Project duration: 7 months
In this incident, around 300 litres of kerosene were estimated to have escaped to ground next to the property and within 10m of the property drinking water bore hole. The drinking water supply tasted of kerosene and the bore hole was so badly impacted that a replacement drinking water bore hole was required.
